Key Qualifications:
  • Instructors teaching the Government of Alberta HCA Provincial Curriculum (2019) must be regulated nurses in Alberta and in good standing with their regulatory college. Regulated nurses in Alberta include registered nurses(RN), registered psychiatric nurses(RPN), nurse practitioners (NP), and licensed practical nurses(LPN).
  • The minimum nursing experience for an instructor is one year full time equivalent (1500 worked hours) clinical nursing or nursing immediately preceding teaching in the HCA Program.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
  • Create dynamic classroom learning experiences using various teaching strategies to facilitate adult learners in achieving learning objectives in accordance with the program objectives as set out in the curriculum.
  • Ensure students are motivated to learn and to maximize their potential.
  • Develop different classroom strategies to ensure knowledge and skills acquisition and retention.
  • Evaluate students’ performance through different academic assessments.
  • Prepare academic reports (grading sheet, attendance, academic exercises, and assessments).
  • Prepare and update course syllabus/outline and content.
  • Create lesson plans and course schedules.
  • Actively participate in developing and updating curriculum, manuals, and guides as requested by the Coordinator and Academic Lead.

Education and Skills Requirements:
  • Licensure: Must be a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in good standing with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).
  • Teaching Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Health Care Aid instructor or possession of a Certification in Adult Education from a recognized institution.
  • Professional Experience: At least 3 years of work experience in the medical field as an LPN or HCA.
  • Expertise: Proficient in translating theoretical knowledge into clinical practice.
  • Attributes: Results-driven, self-motivated, and detail-oriented.
  • Skills: Strong organizational, research, and accuracy skills.
  • Critical Thinking: Excellent listening skills and critical thinking abilities.
  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

Shift: Monday-Fridays 8:30 AM-5:30 PM
