Edison College Canada is looking for a dedicated individual to join our Student loan team as an Student Loan Advisor. Reporting to the College Director, this position is a primary point of contact for prospective students, disseminating information about the college, its programs, and admission processes.

The incumbent will be contributing to the growth of our student enrolment by managing leads and personally developing the pipeline by supporting, interviewing, and encouraging qualified students to study at Edison College Canada. The ideal candidate for this position is described as enthusiastic, ambitious, and results-oriented – with a track record of meeting and exceeding sales targets.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate appropriate confirmation of funds received from the government through the eligibility assessment, timely processing, and adherence to financial controls, processes, and reporting systems.
  • Provide applicants/prospective students detailed and accurate advising related to student financial aid in accordance with the policies of the college and the government regulations.
  • Interpret and troubleshoot student accounts.
  • Provide detailed information regarding confirmation of enrolment and processing timelines, government policies & procedures, amends, loan maximums, payment, and other pertinent information.
  • Promptly respond to all methods of student queries; forecast and plan proactive communication to student borrowers.
  • Keep updated with the changes to student loan policies, procedures, and guidelines and communicates these changes to other departments.
  • Collaborate with other departments through updates and reporting.

Education and Skills Requirements:
  • At least a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience as a Student Loan Officer or Student Financial Aid Advisor in a post-secondary institution.
  • Experience working a teller in a bank for at least 2 years is acceptable.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve utilizing critical thinking skills.
  • Results-driven, self-motivated, and detail-oriented.
  • Strong organizational, time management, research, and accuracy skills.
  • Independent self-starter who can navigate competing priorities.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written including the ability to handle difficult situations in a professional manner and public speaking is required.
  • Must have sensitivity and ability to successfully interact with diverse populations.
  • Committed to quality and a thorough approach to the work.
  • Exceptional computer skills with fast typing speed.
